Invasive phragmites in a wilderness paradise

In many respects, Cockburn Island is a safe haven for plants and wildlife, as it is isolated on Lake Huron, and there is minimal development by humans. However, there is a plot twist to this story: the shoreline of our beloved island is under siege by an army of invasive phragmites, a plant with the potential to take over the wetlands and shorelines.

A popular gathering for connectivity

I’m a science communications intern at the Nature Conservancy of Canada’s (NCC’s) Quebec Region. One of the first tasks I was assigned was to help promote the ’Organizations and Municipalities: indispensable partnerships for connecting territories workshop, which was organized as part of the project Ecological Corridors: an adaptation strategy to climate change.
