New Deadline Monday, May 7, 2018, at 11:00 PM your local time zone.
Dear Friends of the Canadian Mountain Network (CMN):
On March 23rd the Canadian Mountain Network (CMN) announced a Preparatory Call for Proposals in order to elicit project proposals to support the development of CMN’s Full Application to the Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) Funding Competition. As a reminder, following an adjudication process, the CMN team will work with successful applicants to include their proposal in the Full Application. Should CMN be successful in the competition in October 2018, our team would continue to work with successful applicants to have their projects formally approved by the to-be-constituted Research Management Committee and Board of Directors, with funds available in April 2019.
In order to ensure that this process meets both the requirements of our partners who face competing demands for time during this season and our requirements for the Full Application, we will be extending the submission deadline for all applications to Monday, May 7, 2018, at 11:00 PM your local time zone.
As a reminder, the maximum NCE cash portion of a project’s budget will remain at $150,000 per project per year for a maximum of three years. After three years, project teams can apply for an additional round of funding. We also wish to note that shorter term and more preliminary project proposals are also encouraged. We intend to work with projects that are not selected for funding in this first call to find ways to fit strong ideas into the Full Application and commit to working together to further develop them in future.
In the event that interested applicants for any of the three modes cannot meet the application deadline, we encourage you to submit a preliminary expression of interest. This expression of interest can be short (2 pages), but should outline the question(s) of interest, the relevance to the CMN challenges as outlined in the Letter of Intent, potential partners (academic, community, and indigenous, and, if known, any in-kind/cash support that could be leveraged should CMN funds come available. Our intention is to be inclusive and we will work with interested parties to involve them in the Network as it moves forward.
It should also be noted that it is still possible to support CMN at the Full Application stage without submitting a proposal to the Preparatory Call, such as through a Letter of Support. If CMN is successful in October 2018, we will launch a subsequent funding call to allocate whatever balance of funding is available for the April 2019-March 2020 fiscal year.
Thank you for your feedback on this process and we expect that these mid-course adjustments will result in a stronger application and thus improved opportunity for mountain research in Canada.
Sincerely,
Stan Boutin and Norma Kassi
