Distribution of CMN Preparatory Call Submissions

Canadian Mountain Network 2018 Preparatory Call for Proposals

The Canadian Mountain Network (CMN) received 42 Proposals and 39 Abstracts towards the development of CMN’s Full Application to the Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) Funding Competition. The response was overwhelming and we were very impressed by the quality of the applications received.

Quick Facts:

  • Over 200 researchers and 150 collaborators from across Canada responded to the call
  • A total of CA$16,893,102 funding requested over three years
  • 189 communities in total
  • 63 Indigenous communities
  • Of the 42 submissions, 14 are Mode 1, 18 are Mode 2, and 10 are Mode 3

Moving Forward:

As a reminder, the maximum CMN NCE funding per project is $150,000 per year for a maximum of three years. With over CA$16,000,000 of funding requested and only CA$5,400,000 available, CMN expects to approve funding for up to twelve Research Projects through this preparatory competition. The 17 member multidisciplinary adjudication committee made up of members from the Research Management Committee and the Indigenous Advisory Council will evaluate all applications thoroughly, and research teams can expect to hear results in mid-May. We intend to work with projects that are not-selected-for-funding in this first call to find ways to fit strong ideas into the Full Application and commit to working together to further develop them in the future. Our intention is to be inclusive and we will work with interested parties to involve them in the Network as it moves forward.

It should also be noted that it is still possible to support CMN at the Full Application stage without submitting a proposal to the Preparatory Call, such as through a Letter of Support. If CMN is successful in November 2018, we will launch a subsequent funding call to allocate the balance of funding available for the April 2019-March 2020 fiscal year.

Thanks to all those who submitted applications.
