The Canadian Mountain Network (CMN) is pleased to welcome our newly appointed Executive Director Dr. Monique Dubé to our dynamic and interdisciplinary team.
Dr. Dubé is responsible for providing operational leadership, direction, and oversight to the Canadian Mountain Network, as well as supporting the collaborative development of network strategy with the Network’s co-Research Directors and the Board of Directors.
An executive leader and environmental scientist with over 25 years experience working across Canada in a variety of sectors, she brings complementary skills and expertise in diverse fields to her role. Leveraging strong and extensive relationships with governments, industry, academia, Indigenous communities, and the private sector, she is committed to collaboration, listening, and identifying opportunities based on aligned interests.
Having published over 250 contributions in the fields of cumulative effects assessment, environmental monitoring, and ecotoxicology, Dr. Dubé is a recognized expert who has served on a variety of scientific advisory panels at the national and international levels. Her awards include a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council Synergy Award and being named both a Canadian Geographic Scientist of the Year and a YWCA Woman of Distinction.
Among her career highlights are serving as Founder & President of Cumulative Effects Environmental Inc., Executive Director of the Canada-Alberta Oil Sands Monitoring Program, Chief Environmental Scientist at the Alberta Energy Regulator, and as Canada Research Chair and Associate Professor at the University of Saskatchewan. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for The Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation and Girl in the Wild, a non-profit that provides free confidence-building camps for teenage girls in wild places.
Dr. Dubé is passionate about supporting Indigenous communities and advancing women in science. She is a licensed Emergency Medical Responder with the Alberta College of Paramedics, an avid outdoor enthusiast, and an ultramarathon endurance athlete (see photo above).
As the Canadian Mountain Network’s Executive Director, Dr. Dubé reports to the organization’s Board of Directors and assumes the responsibilities of the Network’s previously separate roles of President and Managing Director. The Board of Directors appreciates the service of her predecessor, Matthew Berry, who played a leading role in the design and launch of the Network over four years. Berry continues to support the Canadian Mountain Network in the role of Strategic Advisor, with a focus on knowledge transfer, strategy, and partnership development.
Dr. Dubé’s appointment comes at a critical time for the Canadian Mountain Network as it accelerates the roll out of innovative and exciting research, training, knowledge mobilization, and networking programs. Please join us in welcoming her to the CMN community and thank you for your continued support for our important work!
